Job Description: The purpose of the role is to be the custodian of Shari’ah governance for the FirstRand Group and advise, direct, review and supervise its Islamic operations to ensure that these are conducted as prescribed by the FirstRand Shari'ah Advisory Committee (SAC) Job Responsibilities: Develop, encourage and nurture collaborative relationships across business areas and across the group Provide effective controls, governance and risk management to ensure processes, products and services meet the compliance standards of the FirstRand Shari’ah Advisory Committee (SAC) and audit requirements Identify and encourage participation in activities that are appropriate for own and employee development in area of responsibility Manage team or teams in areas of responsibility in delivery against performance targets and achievement of wider human capital objectives Draw up a budget aligned to tactical delivery plans to facilitate the provision of adequate financial resources Provide guidance and advice on product development, enhancement, maintenance and marketing Job Requirements: Experience - 5 to 8 years experience as part of a Shari'ah team within an Islamic banking environment, of which 2 to 3 years ideally at management level Relevant honours or masters degree in Islamic studies, Recognised qualification in Islamic banking and finance (eg AAOIFI, INCEIF, CIMA) Degree in Shari'ah Studies (Aalim Faadhil), Degree in Advanced Shari'ah Studies (Ifta) Additional Knowledge - Knowledge of Shari’ah principles (Islamic Commercial Law) and applicability to legal agreements
